The work on the development of an autonomous vehicle started in mid 2017 at Massey University Auckland as a student capstone project and the base modifications for drive-by-wire operation were completed. Some of the body work was completd in 2018 by another team of students but no progress towards autonomous driving and testing was made. There was no progress in 2019 due to funding and skills availability. Covid-19-related lockdowns in 2020 and 2021 also resulted in slow or no progress. Initial financial support was provided by a lifecare trust, but they withdrew from the project in March 2022 due to their funding priorities. In April 2022, the project was purchased by us to further develop the prototype and continue the research and development in autonomous driving.
